Don and Joan Beans have lived in the Ely area for many years. Their homestead is located 16 miles east of Ely off the Fernberg Road and on the shores of Jasper Lake.

Joan is originally from Minneapolis, and is employed by the St. Louis County schools as a school psychologist and high school counselor. She has a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota. She also owns the BaskeTree Bakery & Coffee Shop, located at 36 West Sheridan Street.  Her hobbies include scrapbooking and she thoroughly enjoys gardening at the Jasper Lake homestead where she tends to many raised beds of garden vegetables and flowers.

Don, is originally from Canton, Ohio, and operates Jasper Creek Guide Service, Inc. from the A Stay Inn Ely. He has resided in Ely since 1983, where he started working at various resorts and outfitters until opening his own guide and outfitting business in 1988. Jasper Creek Guide Service specializes in trophy smallmouth bass angling. Jasper Creek Guide Service offers a wide range of trip options and packages, for both overnight and day trips into the Quetico-Superior (BWCA) wilderness. ‘A Stay Inn Ely’ offers several popular packages which include his quality guiding services. Don is well known for his campfire cooking skills as well. In the off season, he enjoys wood working, as can be seen in the re-construction of the ‘Inn’, and their handhewn Jasper lake homestead; plus Don enjoys hunting ducks & grouse with his labrador retriever and hiking the vast Northwoods after whitetail deer.

Cindy, Don and Joan’s daughter, is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin, Stout, located in Menominee, WI. She is majoring in Hotel, Restaurant, and Hospitality Management/Services. Cindy has provided quite a bit of the housekeeping services at the Inn since 2006, but we'll see what the first college summer brings. For fun, Cindy enjoys forays into the Northwoods with her Dad and Mom, whether it is fishing, duck and deer hunting, or just canoe camping. Some of her finest memories she says," are the BWCA & Quetico wilderness canoe trips."

The Beans family is committed to providing a quality lodging experience for their guests. In addition to the guarantee of comfortable and clean rooms; these distinctive rooms and additional services will contribute to the overall experience of your vacation. Don, Joan and Cindy will make every effort to insure that your ‘Stay Inn Ely’ is memorable.
